* To achieve an award, regardless of category, the product must first of all be innovative, but functionality, aesthetics, quality etc. are also important criteria.
The Back App has been well received by independent back experts and
users because of its abilities to strengthen the back muscles. It is
also gratifying to see that also designers give recognition to Back App.
March
15th, 2007, Back App was rewarded the Award for Design Excellence by the
Norwegian Design Council, in the furniture design category.
The award is based upon six different criteria – everything ranging from
aesthetics to construction and choice of material is considered by the
jury.
The jury’s verdict:
“Back App represents
the further development of an idea one has previously seen presented by
other manufacturers. The chair caters for the user’s need to sit
correctly while at the same time training important back muscles. The
chair’s tipping movement is comfortable and soft. The foot ring provides
good shock absorbency and a feeling that one is sitting securely and
very comfortably. The innovative part of this product lies primarily in
the ball under the chair itself, which not only ensures a correct
sitting position, but also helps actively train the user’s back muscles.
This product has been given a lot of thought.”
This recognition shows that our “holistic” focus has paid off. Although function and ergonomics has been our main priority, it has been important to use good, solid and environmentally friendly materials. Also, of course, we wanted the chair to look good. In addition to prevent from and heal back pain, it is also “cool”. When you buy a Back App, you get a nice piece of furniture.
The design and development of Back App has been a lengthy process, and is first and foremost an example of good teamwork. Jostein Magerøy from Ad Astra Design has been responsible for design in the development process, and he deserves credit for the good quality of the final product. The development team also consisted of Freddy Johnsen (entrepreneur), manual therapist Trym Telje (product development and professional consultancy), Arne Sundnes (IPR Patent specialist), and Robert Kalstad from Runni AS (manufacturer). They all deserve acknowledgement for achieving the Award for Design Excellence.
